The Passion.
'The Passion' came out last week. I am not going to see the movie. Even if I didn't have moral issues with it, I WOULD NOT be able to handle it emotionally. It would be WAY too much. I am just really sensitive about this kind of torturous . And personally I see nothing wrong with that. I mean why would I, or any Christian for that matter want to inflict such emotional trauma on myself/themselves. We've compared this , to that on other movies, and yeah, I haven't seen Gladiator for that reason, but this is our SAVIOR we are talking about, our King. Can we really compare such ? Why would we want to see him suffer? I understand why some would think it would help us, but the Bible says do not add or take away from the Word/Scripture. I think a movie adds.People have said it enhances their Christian faith/walk/etc. And I can see how it would. (Truly I wanted to see the movie, and I am not trying to insult anyone who has gone.) We have all seen several pictures of Jesus. They surround us. That does not make seeing this movie right? It breaks the second commandment; at least seeing that movie would make it very hard to not break it. I ask you, do you really think Jesus, in His exalted state, by the right hand of His Father in Heaven, really is glorified by this movie? Yes, He could use this for His glory, but He can use everything for His glory.
And it's not just the I am concerned about, this movie, from what I have heard, which is much, doesn't focus on the reason Jesus really cried when He was dying. He was crying because for the first time in the History of the world He didn't have perfect union with the Father, in fact God couldn't even look at His Son. That is why Jesus cried. The pain hurt, but nothing hurt as much as total seperation from His Father.
I am a little passionate about the Passion. I know that it has helped many people. That's great, I am just not sure it is best.

i dissagree with you we should have that emotional trama just when we read it. the story of Christs death should emotionally tear us appart i mean think about it he went through all that pain a troture when he didn't have to and you want to know what else he did it so we would never have to
I'm not commenting much because I don't have anything to say about several of these posts.
that was not luke. That was me.
hey this is Ethan, i wish you hadnt brought this up bekah, but to each his own. i still dont see how it breaks the 2 comandment, that seems to be your main aguement for it, and i dont see it breaking the second commandment at all. Jesus is gorlified in this movie, for a person who has seen it i know this for a fact. bekah i dont think the movie could have done much better showing how much it hurt for them to be seperated with out ADDING to the bible! the bible doesnt say "and thus jesus cried out because he was seperated from his father." he does say on the cross "father father why have you forsaken me!?" i think that is as good as it gets. i dont blame you for not wanting to see it because of the gory. but i think Christians need a good reality check when it comes to how terrible it was. i sure do! i dont know if that means im a weaker christian or not... but that movie effected me alot, and i plan on buying it. well i hope this doesnt blow up again! haha
Peace
Ethan
I don't see how having a tear drop from Heaven, or Mary partaking of her first communion, or showing Jesus walk out of the tomb . etc. what do you call this if it is not adding to what the Bible has written. When you write a movie you HAVE to add. The Bible obviously doesn't give us enough to make a movie because it not subpost to be a movie. I am not saying that these things for sure didn't happen (although I do not think they did). I am just saying we aren't sure. Which means we are making it up, which means we are adding. Which is pretty serious.

our family didn't see 'The Passion' either.
Here is an email my dad wrote about it:
http://naddy.blogspot.com/2004_02_15_naddy_archive.html#107690959345867502
and here is an article I really liked that explains why and answers some common objections--
' "We are not worshipping the image itself, but rather using the image to aid us in worshipping God."
Answer: This has always been the practice of idolaters, including pagan image-worshippers. But even with the distinction, God prohibits the practice. But where has God taught us we needed such an aid beyond the power of the Word? "Let all be put to shame who worship carved images . . .?" (Ps. 97:7).'
Anyway, I don't want to create a fire storm on your post, just thought I'd leave these links for thought.
Have a great day! :-)
Who is Natalie?
Adding to God's Word, in this sense, is, I believe, not inherently wrong. When we talk of adding to the Bible as a serious offence, we mean adding to the Bible something of human authorship AND calling it inspired. It's totally different from adding something and saying that it is just our opinions. Otherwise, it would be wrong to write fiction based on the Bible.
What are you saying Nathaniel? I mean I agree that it is not nearly as serious as really adding to scripture. But did you see the Passion?
What I mean is that to film a story based on the Bible and to add parts to it that aren't in the Bible is not inherently wrong, as long as you make it clear that the final product is not inspired scripture.
No, I never did see the Passion.
We just bought it.
